Lead Mining & Prospecting Masterclass
Instantly.ai – How To Find & Reach Out To 10K Targeted Leads Monthly With a Few Clicks
I feel like leads are still massively undervalued.
Lead mining is the closest thing to modern-day gold mining we can get.
With this guide we want to arm you with pickaxes and give you a map where there is a highest chance to find gold. Once you stumble upon a real gold vein – you’ll know it right away.
Like with everything – the goal is to get into a habit of testing different angles and databases weekly because if you’re starting off fresh you won’t know what works.
Sometimes it works right away, other times you need to test 10+ different searches and target groups.
1 good lead can be worth 10K-100K for a high-ticket B2B offer. So spending $47 on 1K leads or $197 to get 10K leads will bring you insane ROI if you know how to use the leads.
With Instantly Lead Finder of 160M leads:
You can generate campaigns for thousands of leads with 1 click.
You only pay for verified leads – no need to use 3rd party email verification tools.
You can set up evergreen campaigns that get filled automatically with new leads (coming soon)
Start using it here: https://app.instantly.ai/app/lead-finder
How to succeed with this guide:
1. Create a 30 minute calendar event daily to find & fill your campaigns with leads.
2. Based on your daily sending volume add 2x those amount of leads. You never want your active campaigns to run out of leads.
4. If you’re getting results with a specific search – double down on that and add as many leads as possible to that campaign.
5. If you’re not getting results with a specific lead search – try a different one.

Initial Research
Before lead mining you should do research to know exactly which kinds of leads you need.
Do you want to target CEOs, Marketing Managers, Head Business Development or HR Directors? Do you want to target specific software users? Do you need to target a business with a specific revenue? Or companies that are only within a specific employee range?
Also, what countries do you want to target? There’s plenty of countries outside of North America and the UK that speak fluent English and have high purchasing power. Do some research on high GDP per capita countries out there and you’ll know where to find some undiscovered pockets of opportunity. Follow the money.
Get crystal clear on who your offer is for and what segments/lead lists make sense to test. The better your targeting, the more relevant your message will be and ultimately the more positive replies you’ll get. Your offer could be the best thing since sliced bread for one lead list/segment but then be completely uninteresting for another demographic.
All this comes into play when choosing the perfect lead database for you.
If you’re just starting out with a new client the easiest way to find a good target is to look at case studies. Which type of people have closed before for this exact service. Which kind of people have gotten value from this service.
We recommend using our Copywriting Avatar Cheat Sheet to come up with different target groups.

Filters
Filters are the main way to narrow down your audience and find your ideal prospects.
There are multiple ways and many filter combos that can give you similar results.
Also you can find undiscovered leads by using filters that not many people are using.
I encourage you to test out different options and create multiple campaigns to find exactly which lead filters work best for your current offers.
Job Titles

This is one of the main filters I use 96% of the time (I’ll show you what I do the other 4% times soon).
Based on your initial research you should know exactly which position in a company you should target.
Usually you want to target decision makers. CEO’s, Founders, Partners as they have the most decision making power in a company.
On the other hand these positions also get the most emails so they are the hardest people to reach. If your offer is better suited for Marketing Managers even though the CEO has to make the final decision you might wanna try your luck with Marketing Managers first.
You can also use multiple different positions for this filter.
Location
Location filter is another one that I use every time.
Based on your target audience, use whatever country or city works best.
Sometimes I play around with country vs city depending on the amount of leads I find.
The more granular you go the more personalized you can be in your email copy.
If your offer is outside the US, don’t only target the US. Local email campaigns work really well so don’t be afraid to go after smaller countries and cities.
Industry

Industry is one of the most useful filters as we usually want to target people within just one industry so we can craft a message exactly for that target group.
We have an industry filter + sub industry if you want to get even more precise.
I recommend using sub industries whenever possible as your emails will be more targeted and you’ll get more responses.
Only if your sub industry search doesn’t have a lot of leads then try the main industry filter.
Employees
If it’s important for your offer to target companies with a specific employee size you can use the employees filter.
I created a video on best ways to do outreach for different kinds of company sizes.
Watch it here.
Revenue
Revenue filter is very useful when you want to reach out to established companies.
You know they’re already making money so all you need to do is to hit them with a good offer that makes sense and they might become your clients.
But established companies are harder to reach as they have contractors, freelancers, workers already that are working on those things that you’re offering so going after smaller revenue companies isn’t always the worst option. Try both.
PS: Public revenue information isn’t available for all companies so if you’re using a bunch of other filters your searches with a revenue filter might bring less results. If this is the case remove some other filters or make the revenue filter larger by choosing multiple revenue options.
Keywords
This is one of my favorite filters.
Keywords are generated by the company’s website and description.
It works similarly to the industry filter but you can get much more targeted.
For example with industry filter you can target “Marketing & Ads”
But with the keyword filter you can search for “Facebook ads” and get very granular.
This will be amazing for crafting your email and offer for this precise target group.
So play around with different keywords and see what you can find.
Lookalike Domain
Another super powerful filter if you know how to use it.
Lookalike Domains will take your entered domain and find similar companies for you to target.
Our algorithm uses multiple variables like industry, company description and more to give you the most precise results.
If you’re going to use this filter I recommend starting with Lookalike Domain first and then adding more filters later on.
For example if I enter an agency website like ogilvy.com I will get tens of thousands of similar companies. But if I only want to target similar companies in the US – add that to the location filter. Same with the job position and every other filter that’s important to you.
Domains

If you want to find people from a specific domain – use this filter.
You can also upload a list of domains to get results for all of them.
Very useful for harpooning and going after a specific person in a company.
Technologies
Technology filter lets you build lists based on what technologies certain companies are using.
It’ll show you which sites use shopping carts, analytics, hosting and many more.
Let’s say you developed a WordPress plugin and want to reach out to WordPress websites to pitch your idea.
Or let’s say you’re an ecommerce email marketing agency, then you will want to know all websites/stores that use Klaviyo (a common ecom email marketing software) and reach out to them.
Other ideas:
Launching a CRM software? Check which websites have Hubspot or other CRMs on their website.
Want to target Shopify Ecommerce stores? Use Shopify or Shopify plus
Think about the target audience you defined earlier? What other technologies are they using? That may be a direct competitor but it can also be complementary software. Launching a new ecommerce CMS? Find all the websites that are using Shopify or Woocommerce already.
Or if you have a cheaper/better alternative for an existing software, you can export all the websites using your competitors inferior product and reach out with a no-brainer offer.
Department
If you want to find people in a specific department from a company use this filter.
If you want to offer engineering solutions, it might be good to test reaching out to the engineering department.
If your offer is for Marketing – use the marketing department.
Management Levels
Remember that 96% time I mentioned when using Job Position filters?
4% of the time I use Management levels.
This is not as precise as using specific job titles BUT if my offer works for all c-level people this is a good way to increase my target group size and find more leads. Give it a try.
Name
Use this filter if you want to find and reach out to somebody specific.
Let’s say you saw a podcast and want to reach out to that person – enter their name here.
Very useful if you have a very specific offer for few people.
Company Name
Similarly to the Name filter if you want to find people within a specific company use this filter.
You can message the CEO first. If they don’t respond, message the VP of Sales and if they don’t respond message Marketing manager etc.
Very useful if you need to get an answer from a specific company by hitting multiple different angles and people within that company.
Saving Searches

If you have a search that you’re going to be using multiple times it’s useful to save that search so you don’t manually have to enter the filters every time.
To access your saved searches just remove all the filters or go to the lead finder homepage
Here you have access to all your saved searches and recent 3 searches.
Creating Campaigns
Once you have entered the filters and found a bunch of leads you want to target we’ll have to create a campaign to reach out.
With our Lead Finder it’s only a few clicks.
No need to use any 3rd party tools as all the leads added to campaigns from Instantly Lead Finder are going to be verified.
Add to Campaign
You can choose to select:
– 1 Page
– All leads
– Specific number of leads
Once your selection is done click “Add To Campaign”
You have 2 options here:
Either type to create a new campaign.
Or select a campaign you already have from the dropdown
We recommend having the “Check for duplicates” check on so we won’t be adding leads to campaigns that are already in other campaigns.
Also you have the option to enable evergreen campaign which will fill your campaigns with leads from this search at the interval you select:
Then just click “Add to Campaign” and all leads will be added to your campaign.
IMPORTANT: We’re only going to add verified leads to your campaign. If you add 1000 leads from the Lead Finder and 800 are verified, your campaign will have 800 leads and we’ll credit you back for 200 leads.
Evergreen Campaigns
With evergreen campaigns you can automate your entire lead mining process.
Evergreen campaigns work for any search. If you don’t have enough credits to add all the leads from a search to your campaign, just create an evergreen campaign within your limits and you can add more leads monthly when you get more credits.
It’s also very powerful for new filters we’re adding like job postings. You can create an evergreen campaign that reaches out to companies when they add a new job post.
If you have a working targeting and messaging combo that’s bringing you positive responses and closes – there’s no reason not to have an evergreen campaign on for that campaign.
We will fill your campaigns when you’re sick, tired, on a vacation or just want to watch a movie. So there’s no excuses to not get results anymore 😀
Download CSV
If you don’t want to create a campaign right away (don’t know why) you have the option to download the CSV file with all the leads.
IMPORTANT: When you download a CSV you’ll be receiving all the leads from your selection. Not all those leads are going to be verified. So if you want to use it in a different tool you need to use a 3rd party email verification tool first.
Enrichment
Enrichment is a powerful feature for finding email addresses for a list that doesn’t have them.
We can also enrich other variables, but finding emails is the main use case.
To use the people enrichment feature, head over to https://app.instantly.ai/app/lead-finder/enrich
- Click on “Create List”
- Name the list and click “Create”:
- Choose how you want to upload the file:
Map the fields that you want to use for enrichment. In the example below, there is only one column with a Linkedin URL. Remove unnecessary columns by clicking on the “x” sign. Click “Upload All”:
The enrichment process begins immediately, and you can see the status change for the leads from “In enrichment Queue” to “Enriched”:
After the Enrichment process finishes, you can import the leads to the campaign, in the same way as in the Lead Finder search tool.
You can upload a CSV list of contacts:
a. With just the email;
b. Just the LinkedIn URL (not Sales Navigator URL);
c. Or a combination of the company website, first and last name.
We will automatically find all of the details that we have on that list of people.
This feature uses the lead finder credits – one credit per valid enrichment.
If you do not have enough credits, we will still allow the upload of leads – but they won’t be enriched unless credits are added.

Validate & Clean Your Lead List
Lead Validation
After you’ve exported leads from any database, even if they tell you it’s verified you should use a Lead Validation tool to double check those leads.
You’d be surprised to see how many leads don’t actually exist.
And if you send emails to addresses that don’t exist, you will hurt your deliverability and eventually burn your domains.
This is why we clean our lead lists and ensure those email addresses are actually there.
PS: This is very important – don’t skip.
